The Spin Jazz Club visits OXTWO with The Jon Lloyd Quartet
PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS A TICKETED EVENT AND TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE HERE
https://spinjazz.
The Spin is delighted to be returning to the recently refurbished OXTWO (formally, the Summertown Wine Bar) on Sunday 27th July, kicking off a new series of shows at this lovely venue on each last Sunday of the month.
For this reopening, we bring you an outfit that The Guardian described as a “UK-based group presenting vibrant European Contemporary Jazz, played by a quartet of superb musicians…”
The leader and composer is tenor and soprano saxophonist Jon Lloyd, turning his attention now to European contemporary jazz using classical and non-western music influences (as well as jazz sources) to write vibrant, melodic and emotionally direct new jazz compositions. The quartet also comprises the virtuosic John Law (Congregation, Re-Creations, Art of Sound Trio with Yuri Golubev, Asaf Sirkis) on piano, Nick Pini (Laura Marling, Seth Lakeman, Izzie Yardley, Iain Ballamy) on double bass and Alex Goodyear (Yetii, Simon Spillett, Re-Creations, Jake McMurchie) on drums.
This is truly beautiful and very classy music performed by these masters. (Many of you might recall last year’s concert at Tap by John Law’s re-Creations: one of the most outstanding gigs of The Spin’s history!)
UK Jazz News wrote: “His tunes are steeped in the ECM aesthetic, and he and long-time collaborator John Law on piano make it sound like the only music you ever want to hear.”
Or this from a 4-star review in Jazzwise: “The interplay between the quartet members is magical, instinctive… creating music of often startling beauty.”
